How Does Microneedling Work?

The SkinPen microneedling device creates thousands of tiny, precise channels into the surface of your skin. This sets off your body’s natural wound-healing response, which includes the production of new collagen; this minimizes fine lines, reduces acne scars, and creates a softer, smooth skin texture. We include it as part of our Discoloration Package because it’s amazing for evening out pigmentation, especially when combined with specialized serums that penetrate deeper into treated skin.

What Is It Like To Get Microneedling Done?

We’ll start by applying a topical anesthetic to make sure you’re completely comfortable during your treatment. One of our experienced aesthetic professionals will then pass the pen over your skin several times to make sure to treat your entire targeted area. The whole process usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes, though this may vary depending on the size of the treatment area. We also now offer Morpheus8 microneedling treatments at our Newport Beach and Corona, CA, locations. Morpheus8 combines radiofrequency energy with microneedling to stimulate collagen production in the skin's deeper layers.

What Is Microneedling Recovery Like?

You’ll experience some sensitivity, redness, and swelling in your skin for a couple of days following your appointment. You may choose to head home after your treatment as you’ll need to avoid wearing makeup for around 12 to 24 hours as your skin heals. Your skin will be extra sensitive to the sun, so SPF is also a must.

Microneedling results develop over time, so expect to notice gradual improvement over the next few weeks. It’s common to need a few sessions spaced several weeks apart to see the best results.
